WITHIN ME
Concept
Within Me is an interactive exhibition project by Sándor Polgári that brings together paintings exploring inner experience through colour, form, gesture and material.
At the centre of the exhibition is the encounter between the physical painting and the experience it evokes in the viewer. The works are presented not simply as images to be observed, but as spaces that invite attention, recognition and personal response.
A distinctive element of the project is the use of animation. Each selected painting is accompanied by a QR code that opens an animated version of the work on the viewer’s mobile device. Through movement, changing layers and shifting visual relationships, elements of the physical painting enter a different temporal dimension.
The animated image does not illustrate the painting or explain its meaning. Instead, it offers another way of encountering the same work. What is static in the exhibition space becomes fluid on the screen; what is perceived as a single image unfolds into a sequence of visual states.
This creates a dialogue between two forms of presence: the physical presence of the painting and its moving digital counterpart. The viewer moves between them, bringing their own attention, memory and associations into the experience.
The exhibition is therefore conceived as an open encounter rather than a linear narrative. There is no prescribed interpretation and no single meaning to be discovered. Each painting may reveal something different depending on who is looking, and from where within themselves they are looking.
Within Me ultimately asks a simple question:
What happens when the image we are looking at begins to meet the image we carry within ourselves?
The answer remains with the viewer.
